First Aid Box

Have  we ever questioned ourselves, what is first aid? Actually first aid is providing initial care for an illness or injury which may not require further medical care past the first aid intervention. It is usually performed by a non-expert, but trained personnel to a sick or injured person until definitive medical treatment can be accessed.  It generally consists of a series of simple and in some cases, potentially life-saving techniques that an individual can be trained to perform with minimal equipment.

While first aid can also be performed on all animals, the term generally refers to care of human patients.

And a first aid kit is a collection of supplies and equipments for use in giving first aid,and can put together for the purpose (by an individual or organization), or purchased complete from your nearby red cross.
Technically it was the Johnson and Johnson company in 1890. They called it the Johnson and Johnson's First Aid Cabinet. Back then, it only contained the bare essentials of a first aid kit.
Friends, let us hear a tiny story of a village :
It is a village of a developing country, in a lonely place, very fer from the neighbaring villages. So away that  after the sun sets, it is quiet difficult for the villagers to visit the neighbaring ones unless something really important is needed.Doctors are far away even from the neighbaring villages.Suddenly, in one of the villages a somewhat serious acident took place in the deep midnight and exactly at that moment a doctor was almost impossible to be reached for giving some first aid help to the patients injured. The relatives of the patient inspite of being educated could not really help out the patient with a simple first aid step as they didn't have the first aid components and  didn't the most simple first aid steps too.And by the time in the morning a doctor was managed from a far away village, we can really assume what suferings would be beared by the patients and worsening of the condition could might also have occured.

But Friends, that kind of an accident can occur with any of us,in homes in the midnights, in vacations, while climbing mountains, in study institutes, in flights, etc., wether someone is educated or not.And particularly in that moment without a first aid kit and a knowledge of the simplest first aid steps, if a doctor is not going to be reached by the patient, then it is going to bring about a lot of sufferings and dangers.

Now days, almost all education institutes, offices, schools, courts, etc., in simple words, all official places  and also many homes actually are having a first aid kit to aid in any emergencies. But still there are many homes where even in the 21st century we wouldn't find a first aid kit.

All I am trying to say is, not the best but atleast one even the simplest type, a first aid kit should be kept in every home, wether it is a village, city, a home of a developed or of an underdeveloped contry.

So friends, today I am going to show  you how a simple first aid box could be prepared by yourselves quickly at home.

To make a first aid box we first need a box or container that is handy and portable and allows sufficient space, an d that can be placed in such a place that would our of reach of children but easily reached and pulled out by the adults quickly when needed.

I am giving in the following the lists of components and medicines that a first aid kit must contain :

1. First aid manual.

2. Sterile cotton balls.
3. Absorbable and non-absorbable cotton rolls.
4. Sterile gauze of different sizes.
5. Sterile pads.
6. Adhesive bandages.
7. Bandages of different sizes and shapes.
8. Thermometer.
9. Sharp scissors.
10. Thumb forceps / tweezers.
11. Sterile spatulas / tongue depressors.
12. Torch with extra batteries (check condition at least weekly).
13. Disposable syringe and needles
14. Cold pack.
15. Sterile or clean gloves.
16. Acetaminophen and ibuprofen (for pain, fever, cold and any inflammation).
17. Aspirin (for chest pain).
18. Benedryl (for allergies).
19. Bronchodilators (for breathing difficulty).
20. Milk of magnesia. (antacid for poison)
21. Antibiotic cream.
22. Antiseptic solution.
23. Hydrocortisone cream.

26. Antiseptic lotion.
27. Calamine lotion.
29. Alcohol wipes.
30. Safety pins.
31. Antiseptic soaps.
32. Blanket (stored near by).

Most important of all:

1. Learn CPR.
2. Have the emergency phone numbers written on top of the first aid box.
3. Be familiar with the things in the kit and learn to use them (action and dosage of medicines especially).
4. Check the articles in the kit at least weekly and replace them immediately if something is missing or if medicine
    dates expires.
5. Get help as quick as you can in an emergency.

So friends, are you all ready to prepare one for yourselves. Quick it friends, it will nor be wise get late in doing such an important job. Bytheway, I am quiet excited to prepare on for my home.
Soon we will inform you about how to perform some mostly needed first aid steps in most often occuring emergencies in our next posts. Till then, stay healthy, be passionate and keep blogging friends.
